Two weeks and counting

In about two weeks we will be in China. Now we are preparing, keeping our senses open for what needs two happen in those two weeks. This past week was international week at Western which ends with a meal with the food potluck-style from the international students: Nepal, China, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Africa, Japan, Indonesia and others.

It's natural for familiar faces to cluster but it negates greater possibilities of meeting others. However, a lady sat beside me after the seat was vacated to talk to the student across the table. I asked if she was from China. She giggles and asked how I knew. Actually I guessed from the most populace countries with people with Oriental features. I asked what part of China and she said "north". I asked "Shenyang?" Again she giggled and asked how I knew. I guessed but WOU has a relationship with the university in Shenyang which results in many students and scholars from there. I asked if she new Rebecca a business instructor at the university and a scholar at WOU a year ago, and one of the persons whom we plan to visit in China the day before Christmas.

It is important to be aware on everything around us as it may easily connect to our ongoing lives. Lili Zhang will soon be a dear friend.
